You said that you doubt that even a small percentage of users use that customization. Well, for one thing, I don't believe that that customizability of their keyboard was done for the users directly; rather, it is for their (Resco's) direct benefit--it allows them to create and modify their product _easily_ and quickly for different kinds of locales and markets. So, I understand that PPC development is costly and harder to make money, but that's exactly the point here. Customizability allows you to modify your product _quickly_ and with minimal costs for more markets and, therefore, more potential customers. Resco has been able to offer their keyboard in over 20 different languages, and their users have created layouts for over 10 more, which of course creates more goodwill, market- and brain-share and of course sales for them. I can assure you that *every* single PPC owner that I have ever met here in Greece is using the Resco keyboard, just for the Greek support alone.
Take me, for example. I would be *delighted* to purchase Fitaly right here right now right away if it supported Greek. Is it really that difficult (development-wise) to allow the placement of different unicode characters on the keys?? How difficult or time-consuming or costly is that to program really?? (I used to be a programmer, and now I am a project leader of a software dev team, so I know a thing or two about code). Other soft keyboards such Resco, PDAmill's TopKey, and even the freeware RipBoard (which was developed in less than 2 weeks!) and the also freeware Blimkeys (http://sala.sallala.hu/pda/blimkeys/blimkeys_en.html) support the customization of characters on the keys via simple ASCII text files which contain the corresponding unicode values of each key. The guy is hungarian, so he released Blimkeys with just hungarian and english layouts, and in almost no time there were layouts for over 20 languages created by everyday users like me (it took me about 30 minutes to create a superb Greek layout for it by editing a simple small ascii file.)
You are telling me that a single part-time hobbyist programmer with _no_ previous experience in PPC development whatsoever can do this and you can't? It's hard to accept that argument (actually, reading unicode values from an ascii file and placing the equivalent characters on the keys is of course not specific to PPC development, and, again, I don't think it's time-consuming or costly at all to code.)
All those products, commercial or not, are fine and good, but the reason I am even taking the time to write all this is because I *love* Fitaly. As I wrote in my first post, I used it for a very short time and it was already enough to see its power. I am completely convinced and sold on it.
Anyway, I am not involved in PPC development, marketing or sales, so I will accept that you may know better. But I hope that at least I have offered some food for thought.
Cheers. And best of luck.
