Will Landscape be used for Input?

In an earlier thread, we discussed at length options for the Landscape mode... Now I am wondering if we should even bother to do anything for Landscape. Here is the argument:

Notice that Palm did not provide a Landscape Qwerty but a crippled abcde keyboard -- crippled in the sense that anyone who has tried to type on it will tell you that it is very unintuitive. The reasonable approach for a keyboard for Lanscape mode would be a floating horizontal one like what we have for the Tablet PC. But as Palm OS does not support movable windows, this is not possible.

One interpretation of this is that Lanscape is primarily a Reading mode as opposed to an Input mode. It is good to read spreadsheets, web pages, documents, and so on. But very little input, if any, is going to be done in Landscape mode: You may change a few numbers in a spreadsheet and the crippled abcde keyboard is sufficiently adequate for this (unclear that the Fitaly would provide anything better for this).

So, we are starting to wonder if we should not do anything for the Landscape mode. This would mean that users would switch to Portrait when they do text entry.

What do you think?

(It may sound as a surprise after having spent so much time thinking about what the correct layout should be for Landscape... but sometimes the right solution to a problem is discovering that there is no problem to be solved!)
