Changing spaces to tabs automatically in WP???

I'm using my steno machine to type in WordPerfect 9 and when I type my machine puts in five spaces, Q., and then five more spaces. I need to change that in WP to tab, Q, tab. Is there a way to have WP do that automatically rather than having to do a search and replace every time? Also after question marks its adding five spaces and I need to change that. Any help would really be appreciated. I'm new to the Wordperfect environment.
