Keyboard layout - The left sidebar

I often switch between the abc and 123 keyboards and always felt that it was very time consuming, both because it has to be pressed a second time to get back to abc, but mostly because that key is all the way in the bottom left and was wondering if it could be repositioned by splitting the left spacebar in two and putting abc/123 on the left half. It should be okay (even if the lettering might seem to be a little cramped since the spacebar is in the same place on both layouts and then the Alt key could be put in the bottom left.
