Getting the hang of it

Britta,

... I cannot seem to get the hang of it after 60 years of typing on a QWERTY! but I do well in the mornings. I also sit and think a moment to map where the vowels are and the r, s, t, n are, etc. and that helps.

You must feel like hunting and pecking for each letter, and I can understand your frustration especially when you are very fast on the QWERTY keyboard. But did you try to do "one-finger" typing on the QWERTY keyboard? Your 10 fingers "know" where the letters are, your one finger (or stylus) has to "think" and "move" a lot back and forth.

What usually helps on the Fitaly layout is to visualize the syllable or the word you want to type before you tap the letters. You will discover that there are patterns that you will then memorize like a triangle for "the", a diagonal for "and" etc.

To become efficient with Fitaly you will use a very different mind set from the one you are using on a QWERTY keyboard.

I hope this helps,

Marianne

PS Also, once you see the word on the keyboard, tap the letters AND the space as if it were part of the word.

As you mentioned, you have already discovered the advantage of having the space be part of a slide (or glossary expansion)!
