Moving IT to a new computer

With the powerful new computers appearing these days at incredible prices, this is a question I am getting frequently: How do I move IT to my new computer?

Installing Instant Text on a new computer is very easy, assuming you still have your IT installation disk. So, on your new computer, use the IT installation disk and install IT just as you did the first time. If applicable, download the latest revision of IT V Pro so you are using the most up-to-date release of Instant Text.

Next, to move your glossaries over to the new computer:

On the old computer:

  • Go to My Computer --> C-Drive --> InstText --> Glossary folder
  • Right-click on the glossaries you wish to move and select "Send to" and then select the destination drive where your backup CD is located. (When selecting the "Send to" option, Windows will automatically place a copy of the files to the destination drive.)

On the new computer:

  • Open the backup CD and right-click on the glossaries and select "Copy"
  • Go to My Computer --> C-Drive --> InstText --> Glossary folder.
  • Right-click anywhere in the Glossary folder and select "Paste"

If you see a message stating "this file already exists, do you wish to replace it?" Say yes, as you want to override the original file with the update file from your backup drive.

Finally, to use Instant Text with your glossaries, open them one by one to your Active Glossary List and then save the Active Glossary List. You may also need to go to the Options dialog and select the same options as on the old computer.

Kind regards,
Kristen
