How do I make the # of advisory lines stay at 5?

I have changed the number of advisory lines to 5 but for some reason it is listing 15 lines. This is taking up too much room on my screen. How can I get only 5 advisory lines to show? I have made these changes in options and have to drag and more the advisory every time it links to a window. Its getting very frustrating. What should I do about it?
