no access to glossary

the glossary that I am currently using will not link to the word document. the green light is on and everything indicates the glossary is linked; however, every time i attempt to use the abbreviation and expand in my Word document, I don't have access to the glossary. nothing even pops up in the advisory. i've never had this problem before. can anyone help?
